Community for ALL- A Brighter Futures for Children with Disabilities in China

World Vision began working in China in 1982. We have nearly 200 staff operating in eight provinces, regions and municipalities. With our global expertise in addressing the needs of vulnerable children, combined with our long and deep experience in China, World Vision is uniquely positioned to positively impact the life stories of children in rural communities.

Join Our Vision For Special Needs Children

In 2022, 734 million people in China were employed, accounting for 52% of the total population. In contrast, only 9,055,000 people with disabilities work, accounting for less than 11% of those with disabilities.* Vocational training is a critical part of career development. It provides people with disabilities the means to earn their income, reduce the burdens of their families and contribute to the nation's social development.

In China, many young people with disabilities cannot enroll in vocational training due to the lack of resources. Their future is also uncertain after leaving special education schools or rehabilitation centers because they cannot find suitable employment. Very few organizations in the country provide services to assist these youths, making it even more challenging for them to develop further.

The major problems faced by youths with disabilities:

  • Many do not perform well in school and are not highly qualified.

  • Vocational and technical schools focus on professional skills and do not provide life

skills training such as adolescent education, mental well-being, vocational preparation

    and career planning.

  • Rehabilitation and special education institutions lack referral services to help youths

move to the next stage of employment.

  • There is insufficient assistance and support for caregivers.

  • Youths with disabilities lack social integration skills

In recent years, World Vision has been working with 15 local partners to provide pre-employment training to nearly 300 youths with disabilities.

This includes building professional work ethics, life skills and resilience into their daily lives to better prepare them for employment and to integrate into society. Some youths participating in this project now operate florists and mini-markets in welfare homes. At the same time, others have received intern opportunities at car wash outlets, tea art shops and cleaning services.

Youths who have not secured permanent work have more enriching lives as they look forward to a brighter future and strive towards achieving their dreams.

World Vision is raising USD 320,000 over the next three years to assist another 300 youths with disabilities in Tianjin, Shaanxi and Guangxi to receive pre-employment training. We will also equip teachers and caregivers in rehabilitation and welfare institutions, as well as parents, so that they can be support pillars for youths seeking employment.

Pre-employment training has lead me a step close to my dreams

"I find every day fulfilling now because I am moving closer to my dreams. Although my progress is slow, I will work hard to learn all the skills and prepare myself for future employment. I will one day earn enough money to realize my dream of traveling around the country to see the beautiful rivers and mountains!" Zhengzheng says happily

17-year-old Zhengzheng was born with limb deformities. He did not receive consistent life skills training while undergoing rehabilitation education and lives in an inconvenient environment for his condition. After evaluating his ability, the welfare institution he attended applied for him to join pre-employment training.

Zhengzheng learned to operate the cash register, fold towels, mop the floor, clean furniture, the sink and different objects. These tasks were a huge challenge for Zhengzheng due to his immobility. But under his teachers' guidance and Zhengzheng's perseverance, he finally got a job as a cashier in a supermarket, which he excelled in

A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR THEM STARTS NOW

With a donation of USD1067, you can give a youth with disabilities access to quality vocational training and pre-employment support, so that they can better integrate into society and find their self-worth.

By supporting the 'Community for All - A Brighter Futures for Children with Disabilities in China' project, you are giving more youths like Zhengzheng the chance to achieve their dreams.
